Infectious Complications Of Renal Transplantation
Dr. Alpay AZAPa
aEnfeksiyon Hastalıkları ABD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Infectious complications are still important causes of morbidity and mortality among transplant recipients. The risk of infection in transplant recipients is largely influenced by three factors: technical and/or anatomic mishaps, environmental exposures, and net state of immunosuppression. Net state of immunosuppression is the main factor that determines the antimicrobial program. Infection in the post-transplant period shows a time dependent pattern. When considering the timetable of infection, three time periods are recognized, each with differing forms of infection: first month post-transplant, one to six months post-transplant, more than six months post-transplant. This timetable is the basis for judicious and appropriate antimicrobial strategies. Keywords: Kidney transplantation, opportunistic infections, infectionTurkiye Klinikleri J Nephrol-Special Topics 2008, 1:79-85
