Renal Tranplantation: Donor-recipient Operations And Surgical Complications
Dr. Selçuk M. HAZİNEDAROĞLUa
aGenel Cerrahi ABD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Renal transplantation remains the only treatment for end stage renal disease which can provide patients an independent life free from dialysis. Organ shortage is the only reason that limits renal transplantation. In Turkey the number of cadaveric transplantations can be increased. However living donors seem to continue being the major organ source. Living donors constitute 75% of the total in many programs world wide. Developments in modern surgery, laparoscopic and robotic applications increase the success rate in living donor renal transplantation. Every attempt should be made to increase the comfort of the donors such as laparoscopic donor nephrectomy. Keywords: Transplantation; kidney; surgeryTurkiye Klinikleri J Nephrol-Special Topics 2008, 1:49-52
